Many of you may have seen the porcupine-spiked hat in our lobby, but you may not know the legend behind it.
As the story goes, the original owner of The Baldpate, Mr. Gordon Mace, had it in with a local porcupine who wouldn’t stay out of the kitchen. Finally, having had enough the shenanigans, Mr. Mace trapped the porcupine in his hat and threw it all the way to Estes Park. However, the porcupine lived on and traveled back to the Inn, leaving the hat at our doorstep…
