Good Morning Everyone!
It is starting out to be a beautiful day here at the Baldpate Inn! Come enjoy the views and stop by for some lunch or dinner in our dining room. Today we have our Red Chili and Chicken Rice soups. Served alongside will be our Cranberry Nut and Trail Mix muffins.
Tomorrow night we will be hosting our Summer Enchanted Evenings lecture series. In August 1928, Hawaii held a week-long world's fair-type celebration to honor the English explorer James Cook, as well as highlight the islands' growing importance in Pacific affairs. Little of importance resulted from the actual event, but one commemorative item, produced in limited quantities, is now the most valuable 20th century half-dollar coin ever minted in the United States. The few times it shows up on the auction market, this coin commands upwards of $100,000 from collectors. Estes Park is lucky in that one example of this coin, the so-called "Captain Cook half" or "Hawaiian half", resides in a nearby museum, and doubly lucky the only true living expert on the celebration of the coin will be at the Baldpate Inn on Wednesday. Come hear John Meissner talk about another wild adventure as he details the search for surviving specimens of the sandblast proof Captain Cook half.
We hope to see you there!
