We hope you all can make it out to the Baldpate today for our last day of the 2009 season! It has been a wonderful year and wouldn't have been if it weren't for our guests. Thank you for creating an exceptional experience and memories to last a lifetime.
Today we will be serving our Beef Stew as well as the Pumpkin Curry. While we typically do not have cornbread when we have the Beef Stew, Lois decided today would be special so in our bread selection we will have the world famous treat! Winding Down for the Season
Well, it’s hard to believe this will by my final blog for the 2009 season at the Baldpate Inn. The summer and fall have flown by and we are down to our final 2 days (today and tomorrow). It has certainly been an amazing experience to work here at the Baldpate Inn and spend a summer in the mountains. For someone like myself who is used to the flat land and cornfields of Ohio, the mountains have been a welcome break and have provided plenty of memories.
I want to thank all of our guests from this season for also providing plenty of memories. It was truly a joy to work in a place that is full of so many stories. I can’t even begin to count the incredible number of stories that our guests have about their personal history with the Baldpate Inn. The wonderful history of this building continues to grow with each of these stories and is what builds the character and tradition of the Baldpate Inn.
If you’re in town and want to satisfy your Baldpate Inn cravings once more before we close on Sunday, give us a call (970-586-5397) or make a reservation online (http://www.baldpateinn.com/dining.asp). Reservations, as always, are highly recommended as we expect to be busier than usual these last few days.
Soups of the Day: White Chili and Tomato Rice
Muffins of the Day: Poppy Seed and Golden Sunshine
Rumors in kitchen are making it sound like we’ll be having Beef Stew and Pumpkin Curry soups tomorrow.
Again, it has truly been a joy to interact with all of you this summer and we hope to see you back at the Baldpate Inn again in 2010.
Take care,
Eric Knapke

Last Open Weekend....
It looks as though it's going to be a beautiful day here at The Baldpate Inn! Step outside and enjoy the cool mountain air while the sun sends down its golden rays-kissing everything in their path. Don't miss your chance to catch a glimpse of the elusive Stellars Jay-a couple of them have been raiding our bird feeder even more frequently since the hummingbirds decided to head to a warmer climate.
Today our lovely chefs are busily preparing Cowboy Buffalo Stew (I promise-no cowboys went missing during the making of this stew) as well as Corn Chowder for your dining pleasure! Our mouth-watering Baldpate Corn Bread or homemade Honey Wheat Bread would go perfectly with either soup. Our sweet muffins: Jenn's Nutty Zucchini (a staff favorite-thanks Jenn for insisting they be added to the menu) and Classic Blueberry are sure to tantalize your taste buds and leave you wanting more! Remember to save room for a slice of homemade pie. You may even choose to have it heated up-ala mode. Just want pie?! No problem!
Finally-I was able to convince the chefs to let me in on the rumored soups for tomorrow: White Chili and Tomato Rice.
Keep in mind that this is the last weekend we are open for the 2009 season with our last seating at 2:00pm on Sunday October 18th, 2009. We'd love to have you join us anytime today for world food day between 11:30am and 7:00pm. Call us at 970-586-6151 or toll-free 866-577-5397 to make reservations or visit our website www.baldpateinn.com/dining.asp to make them online. The American History Savers are in the process of documenting each and every key in our collection; quite a task-considering we have the world's largest collection. Stop on in to discover the history.

The dusting of snow that fell last evening looks to melt rather quickly today as sunshine returns to Estes Park. The next few days will be decently warm with a high of 51 degrees today and tomorrow a high of 61 degrees, both days with plenty of that wonderful Colorado sunshine.
With our closing date set as October 18th, we are rapidly approaching the end of our 2009 season. If you were planning one more trip (or two…maybe even three) to the Baldpate Inn this season, this is just a reminder that we’re now open for less than two weeks.
Important note about dinner: Due to the Estes Park Wedding Association dinner in our restaurant this evening, our last seating for the general public will be at 4:00 PM this afternoon. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Wedding Photo Shoot
Yesterday proved to be quite an experience as we had photographers taking mock wedding pictures at the Baldpate Inn. I was chosen to be the groom for the pictures and the photographers brought along the bride. I have to admit it was quite hilarious to see everyone’s reaction as they walked past. We heard “congratulations” from many people and then had to disappoint them by saying it was just a mock wedding. Sorry to anyone we disappointed yesterday!

Well it appears that all the snow that was in the forecast for last night never arrived. A winter storm warning was issued last night and said that elevations above 7000 feet could expect anywhere from 6 to 16 inches of snow. With the Baldpate Inn sitting around 9000 feet, we were expecting to see a few inches of snow by this morning. While we have awoken to some chilly weather, the snow has strayed from the Estes Valley. There is still a chance of snow throughout this afternoon, but as of now, we are all clear at the Baldpate Inn.
Soups of the Day: Red Chili and Potato Leek
Muffins of the Day: Tropical Paradise (my personal favorite) and Cranberry Nut
According to rumors in the kitchen, it sounds like we’ll be having Beef Stew and Corn Chowder tomorrow.

Elk Bugling
The fall season brings a unique chance to view elk in the Estes Valley. From mid-September and into early October, the mating season for elk takes place. This is a tremendous opportunity to see elk not only in Rocky Mountain National Park, but all around the Estes Valley. The distinctive mating call of the bull elk, also referred to as bugling, is most often heard from early dusk until dawn.

Fall Colors
The aspen leaves are slowly beginning to change as we push further into September. The aspens near the Baldpate are started to get some small yellow spots on them so they look to be changing soon as well.

Soups & Muffins
We again are experiencing another wonderful day! The cool morning air has a refreshing effect as it gently passes by sending the ever-changing aspen leaves into an elegant ballet while the sun's golden rays take the chill off everything in their path! A Stellars Jay has been stocking the bird feeder lately-come on up for your chance to see this beautiful bird.
White Chili (a menu item for almost 10 years) and Tomato Rice (vegetarian and gluten free) happen to be the delicious soups our lovely chefs are busy back in the kitchen preparing for you dining enjoyment today! Have a bowl or two with a slice of our homemade Honey Wheat Bread. However, if you're more interested in our mouth-watering Baldpate Corn Bread-you're in luck as it is also on the menu today. Try either of our savory muffins today: All Bran or Triple Cheese. Remember to try one or all of our three specialty salads our staff has made to tantalize your taste buds. Don't forget to save room for pie. Too full?! No problem-you can take it home to enjoy at a later time! I recommend the cherry, rhubarb or chocolate.
Join us today anytime between 11:30am and 8:00pm before or after attending the Longs Peak Scottish-Irish Highland Festival at the Estes Park Fair Grounds - http://www.scotfest.com/ -it's an annual event in its 33rd year-don't miss it. Stop by to see Dasha on her last day as she mush return to Russia for school. She will be greatly missed and we wish her the best of luck. Soups & Muffins
A crisp breeze is making it a bit chilly up here at The Baldpate Inn this lovely Sunday morning as the sun tries to peek through the cloud cover hovering over the valley. Only a few hummingbirds remain dancing amongst their surroundings so be sure head on up to catch one of your last chances to see these fast-paced birds before they migrate for the winter to a warmer climate.
Our fine chefs are preparing for your arrival! They are making Cowboy Buffalo Stew with its "wild west trail drive" flavors (come in to found out why the word cowboy has a special double meaning in relation to this tasty soup) and Potato Leek (one of my favorites) to warm your soul. Pair either of our delicious soups with our mouth-watering Baldpate Corn Bread or our homemade Honey Wheat Bread (you can make both of these breads at home as they are found in our 2008 Legacy Edition Collections cookbook). This happens to be the 17th year our Peanut Butter Muffins have been tantalizing our guests' tastebuds and a big thanks to Jenn for insisting the Zucchini Nut Muffins had to be added to the menu as they are a staff and guest favorite alike. Did you know September is Apple Month? There would be no better way to celebrate then with a delicious slice of our scrumptious Scandinavian Apple pie!
The chefs are keeping the soups for tomorrow's menu a secret for the time being.
Join us today for any of our wonderful buffet items! Thinking about taking a hike? Ask any of us where to go-I went on a wonderful hike on my day off last week! To make reservations either call us at 970-586-6151 or toll-free 866-577-5397 or reserve a spot online http://www.baldpateinn.com/dining.asp -we'd love to see you today!

Already September
Anyone else find it hard to believe that we’re already into the month of September? It seems like just a few weeks ago that we opened for the season and we’re already quickly approaching our closing on October 18th. With September comes one of the largest events in Estes Park – the Scottish-Irish Highland Festival. This event kicks off next Thursday and will fill the Estes Valley with the beautiful sounds of bagpipe groups from around the world. If you plan on being in town for the event, we’d love to have you stop by for some lunch or dinner. We look to be quite busy that weekend, so make your reservations as soon as possible.
Reservations can be made online (http://www.baldpateinn.com/dining.asp) or by calling us at 970-586-5497.

Unique Views of the Mountains
It looks as though even Colorado is feeling the effects of the wildfires in California. A haze was cast over the Estes Valley yesterday and continues to remain today. This is due to the amount of smoke being created by the wildfires. While the smell of smoke is extremely faint, it certainly has created a unique view of the mountains in the distance.
Come join us for lunch or dinner today and see for yourself this unique view of the mountains that the smoky haze has created. I can certainly say I haven’t seen anything like it so far this summer. Reservations are always recommended and can be made by phone (970-586-5397) or on our website by following this link http://www.baldpateinn.com/dining.asp.
Soups of the day: Red Chili and Broccoli Cheese
Muffins of the day: Lemon Ginger and Cranberry Nut
The rumor working its way through the kitchen is that we’ll be having Beef Stew and Tomato Rice tomorrow.
I hope you enjoy this beautiful Wednesday and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Remember to try the muffins found right beside our other breads-today we are having Jenn's Nutty Zucchini Muffins and savory Triple Cheese Muffins!
