Today's Soups and Muffins

Good Morning!

It is a chilly, and snowy morning here at the Baldpate Inn.  Though I am sure that all of the Estes Park natives see MUCH more snow than this, in the months I have been here, this is the most snow a girl from El Paso, TX has seen in a long while!  It definitely puts me in the mood for a hot bowl of homemade soup.  If you have the same incling please come down for a visit to enjoy our Pumpkin Curry, and Cowboy Buffalo Stew today.  Our muffins today are Golden Sunshine and Green Onion Cream Cheese.

We hope to see you again before the end of the season!  Please call 970-586-5397 to make reservations.

Saturday, October 9th

Good Morning Everyone!

Our first snowfall of the year occurred yesterday afternoon.  With temperatures still above freezing, none of the snow accumulated, but it did create a nice wintry view from the dining room windows.  Today looks to bring back plenty of sunshine which should create spectacular views of the last remaining golden aspen leaves with snow covered peaks in the background.

Soups of the Day: White Chili and Cream of Mushroom

Muffins of the Day: Zucchini Nut and Feta Frenzy

Even though we are approaching the later dates of our season, we still highly recommend reservations, especially on weekends as we look to be quite busy.  Our phone number is 970-586-5397 or you could visit our website or Facebook page for online reservations.

Summer Enchanted Evenings

Good Morning Everyone!

It's definitely hard to believe that we're at the end of September; the weather has made it feel more like early August.  Last year at this time we had snow up here at the Baldpate Inn, today we're expecting temperatures in the mid 70's.  The weather has been absolutely gorgeous the past few days.  The clear blue skies contrasted with the golden aspen leaves has certainly created a beautiful scene in the Estes Valley.

Our final Summer Enchanted Evening program for the 2010 season will be held tonight at 7:00 PM in our library.  Tonight's discussion will focus on a time-capsule that was discovered in 1960, but has since been lost.  Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

Soups of the Day: Cowboy Buffalo Stew and Pumpkin Curry

Muffins of the Day: Blueberry and Zucchini Dill

Reservations are always recommended, even as we move into the later stages of our season.  We have been quite busy the past several days so give us a call or visit our website for reservations.

Tasty Tuesday!

Morning everyone,
Hopefully everyone had a great start to their week yesterday!  We would love for you to come join us for lunch or dinner today.  We are serving Red Chili and Garden Vegetable soup along with Oatmeal Blueberry and Trail Mix muffins.  We will also have our famous Cornbread and delicious Honey Wheat Bread.  Top off the meal with some yummy homemade pie!

We invite everyone to attend our Summer Enchanted Evening tomorrow night September 29, 2010
In 1960, Estes Park recovered a tin box built into the foundation of a 1908 home behind on Moraine Avenue, just south of the Park Theatre.  The contents of this box included two issues of Estes Park's first newspaper, as well as an accurately-dated photograph of the early downtown business district.  This "time capsule" has subsequently become lost, or is at least has become so well misplaced that no current Estes Park residents or institutions can locate it.  Tonight's program includes details of the search for the missing 1908 time capsule, as well as providing an update on an EPHRP-sponsored project to recreate a modern time capsule with the help of the community.

Hope to see you soon,
Jesslyn Ratliff

Monday, September 27th

Good Morning Everyone!

Thank you to all of our visitors the past few days who helped us celebrate our Enchanted Autumn Gold weekend.  We hope you enjoyed our themed days of pumpkin, corn, and apple that coincided with the changing aspen leaves.  If you had a chance to try our new Apple Carrot soup yesterday and have some feedback, we'd love to hear it.  We're currently debating whether or not to add this soup to our regular rotation of soups and we'd greatly appreciate any comments you may have about it.  Feel free to send us a quick email at baldpateinn@aol.com if you have any feedback about this new soup.

Also, a winner has been picked for our Enchanted Autumn Gold drawing.  Belinda Heeden was the lucky winner and will be receiving a gift certificate to use at the Baldpate Inn.

Soups of the day: White Chili and Cream of Mushroom

Muffins of the day: Lemon Ginger and Banana Butterscotch

Even as we move into the later stages of our season, we still highly encourage reservations.  We have been quite busy the past few days so give us a call or visit our website or Facebook page to make a reservation and ensure we'll have a table for you.

Summer Enchanted Evenings Tomorrow Night!

Good Morning Everyone!

It is starting out to be a beautiful day here at the Baldpate Inn!  Come enjoy the views and stop by for some lunch or dinner in our dining room.  Today we have our Red Chili and Chicken Rice soups.  Served alongside will be our Cranberry Nut and Trail Mix muffins.

Tomorrow night we will be hosting our Summer Enchanted Evenings lecture series.  In August 1928, Hawaii held a week-long world's fair-type celebration to honor the English explorer James Cook, as well as highlight the islands' growing importance in Pacific affairs. Little of importance resulted from the actual event, but one commemorative item, produced in limited quantities, is now the most valuable 20th century half-dollar coin ever minted in the United States. The few times it shows up on the auction market, this coin commands upwards of $100,000 from collectors. Estes Park is lucky in that one example of this coin, the so-called "Captain Cook half" or "Hawaiian half", resides in a nearby museum, and doubly lucky the only true living expert on the celebration of the coin will be at the Baldpate Inn on Wednesday. Come hear John Meissner talk about another wild adventure as he details the search for surviving specimens of the sandblast proof Captain Cook half.

We hope to see you there!

Soups of the Day: White Chili and Broccoli Cheese

Muffins of the Day: Oatmeal Blues and Mandarin Orange

As always, we encourage reservations all throughout the day.  Visit our website or Facebook page to make reservations or give us a call at 970-586-5397.

Chilly Morning

Good Morning Everyone!

It's a chilly morning here at the Baldpate Inn today.  Temperatures last night reached down into the 30's last evening and our lobby fireplace will probably be roaring all day.

Unique views of the Estes Valley were seen this morning from our dining room windows.  Smoke from the two nearby wildfires filled the valley overnight and the smoke has been slowly dissipating throughout the morning.  A small fire across town in the Cow Creek valley and another larger fire south of us near Boulder should be slowed by lesser winds today.

Soups of the Day: Beef Stew and Tomato Rice

Muffins of the Day: Oatmeal Blueberry and Zucchini Dill

Reservations as always recommended and can be made online or by calling us at 970-586-5397.

Happy Labor Day!

Good Morning,

Hopefully everyone is enjoying their three day weekend so far.  The weather has been gorgeous all weekend and looks like it is not going to let us down today.  It has been a busy weekend here at the Baldpate!  Don't forget that we now close at 7:00 PM and we always appreciate calling ahead to make reservations for lunch or dinner at 970-586-5397.

Today we are serving Cream of Mushroom and White Chili soup along with Poppy Seed and Golden Sunshine muffins.  Have a craving for something sweet?  Our delicious homemade pie will definitely take care of that craving.

If you think every long-standing business and residence in Estes has always had the same telephone number, think again. 1960 was the first year Estes Park telephone owners were assigned seven-digit telephone numbers (what we are all familiar with today), which was actually early compared to other northern Colorado towns. Join the Estes Park History Rescue Project for an interactive investigation of the 1960 Estes Park telephone book (we have one of the few known copies in the United States) compared to our modern telephone directory, including a look at some of the “pioneers” who still have the same telephone number 50 years later.

Sunny Sunday

Good Morning Everyone!

Another gorgeous day here in Estes Park today and what a wonderful day to continue with the Labor Day weekend. On my walk this morning, I noticed even more yellow leaves along the driveway, a definite sign that the fall season is in full swing. One by one, the millions of aspen leaves in the Estes Valley will be losing their green color and will eventually pepper the mountain sides with golden yellow in a few more weeks.

Soups of the Day: Cowboy Buffalo Stew and Pumpkin Curry

Autumn is in the air!

Good morning Baldpate friends,

Well if its chilly outside and Lois is writing the blog,  you gotta know we are moving into fall!  The crowds seem to be gone during the week, which is just as well as lots of my summer staff have returned to school.  The great news is that the crew that remains is anxious to do their best to make your visit spectacular!  We do still recommend you call if you plan to come up for a meal,  I've been guessing wrong pretty much all summer on how busy we will be, so we want to prepare the best we can for you!   970.586.6151

Soups today are  White Chili and Pumpkin Curry which pair well with our Oatmeal Blueberry and Zucchini Dill Muffins.

We are looking forward to tonight's 7 PM Summer Enchanted Evening with John Meissner presenting "What's wrong with this picture?"  His talks are always fun and informative, so make plans to join us!

Have a great day!

Warmly,   Lois

Good morning!

It is another lovely morning here at the Baldpate Inn!  As the weather is turning to Autumn I am certainly glad to have hot homemade soups available everyday to keep me warm.  Today we will be serving our delicious Beef Stew, and our Broccoli Cheese soup.  Our muffins are Pumpkin, and Mandarin Orange.

Don't forget about our Summer Enchanted Evenings tomorrow night at 7:00 PM here at the Baldpate Inn library.  Our topic is “What’s Wrong with this Picture?” and will be presented by John Meissner.
Join the Estes Park History Rescue Project for this Wednesday’s Summer Enchanted Evenings for a 45-minute look at the current state of our past. “What’s Wrong with this Picture?” will examine information assigned to 10 crucial photographs or buildings that Estes Park has yet to get right, and absolutely must correct and reach community consensus on before Estes approaches its 2017 centennial.

In 1992, as Estes Park prepared for its 75th birthday, a large number of commemorative plaques and monuments were placed in downtown open spaces and on historic buildings. While most of the information incorporated on the markers was accurate, some of the dates and locations were grossly inaccurate. With the advent of easily searchable electronic databases, it is clear that, in some cases, where information was ambiguous (sometime in the 1930s, around this neighborhood, etc.) it can now be made precise, and where information was precise, it was often wrong. Indeed, some of the dates assigned to “classic” and frequently reproduced Estes Park images are off by as much as a decade.

If you would like to join us for dining please call for reservations at 970-586-5397. Hope to see you then!

Nearing the end of August

Good morning everyone!

Hard to believe it's almost the end of August already, isn't it?  This month has absolutely flown by here at the Baldpate and the fall season grows on us more and more everyday.  As it has gotten colder in the evenings, our hummingbirds have started to leave us for the summer, but they have been replaced by 4 gorgeous Stellar Jays.  As I usually tell guests, "they look like bluejays on steroids with a mohawk."  They are beautiful birds and certainly provide plenty of entertainment for us.

Soups of the Day: Red Chili and Corn Chowder

Muffins of the Day: Trail Mix and Banana Butterscotch

As usual, we always recommend reservations and those can be made by phone (970-586-5397) or on our website.

Take care,

Sunny Sunday!

Good Morning everyone!  It's a beautiful day here in the mountains of Estes Park, CO.  As always, our Soup and Salad Specialty Buffet is looking fantastic.  On today's menu we have our delicious Beef Stew and Potato Leek Soup.  To compliment our soups we have our Zucchini Nut & Lemon Blueberry muffins.  And remember to save room for our assortment of delicious homemade pie!   Along with the great food we have an equally fantastic view of the town of Estes Park.  So come and join us for a day away from the ordinary at the Baldpate Inn!

Reservations recommended at 970-586-5397

Sunny Saturday

Good Morning Everyone!

The autumn season is starting to get underway here at the Baldpate Inn.  While the weather still feels like summer, the aspen trees are starting to show signs that fall is just around the corner.  On my walk up the driveway this morning, I noticed a small handful of aspen leaves that have started to get some yellow spots on them.  In a few weeks, the mountains will be peppered with golden yellow as all the aspens begin to change color.

Soups of the Day: White Chili and Garden Vegetable

Muffins of the Day: Cranberry Nut and Green Onion Cream Cheese

Even as we move into the fall and Estes Park begins to slow down from the summer influx of visitors, we still always recommend reservations.  Please give us a call at 970-586-5397 or visit our website to make an online reservation.

Take care,

Friday's soups and muffins!

Good Morning!

Another beautiful day here at the Baldpate Inn watching the trees gently sway in the wind.  If that wind gives you a chill come by for a hot bowl of homemade soup before venturing back out!  Today our soups are the Cowboy Buffalo Stew, and the Tomato Rice (one of my favorites)!  Accompanying these soups are our homemade muffins.  Today we have the Tropical Paradise and Three Cheese muffins.

We hope to be able to share a great meal with you (paired with an excellent view), a tour of our famous key collection, or at least a friendly smile on your next visit to the Baldpate Inn!  Til then!

Summer Enchanted Evening on Wednesday, August 25, 2010
Anyone with an interest in Rocky Mountain National Park, butterflies, or early science and scientific expeditions will enjoy this evening‘s program at the Baldpate Inn, part of the Baldpate‘s continuing “Summer Enchanted Evenings” lecture series. Rich Bray, coordinator of the Rocky Mountain National Park Butterfly Project, will explore ties between butterflies found in RMNP, the individuals responsible for their initial discovery, classification, or life history elucidation, and the ground-breaking works these men and women published and illustrated, often at great expense. Included in the 45-minute slide presentation will be profiles of the young, self-taught naturalist who accompanied Major Stephen Long to Colorado in 1820, an early Amazon River explorer who bankrupted himself pursuing a passion for butterflies, and one unsavory collector who pilfered other people’s prized specimens in his top hat. The program, which begins at 7:00 p.m., is free to the public. Call the Baldpate at 586-5397 for further information or directions.

Well Howdy to Ya!

As I went to get the paper this mornin', I had to stop and marvel at the view. The Baldpate Inn has one of the best vantage points of gorgeous scenery I, personally, have ever seen. The sun perched itself right on top of Twin Sisters like a bird prepared to belt out her delightful tunes for the day. The clouds scattered themselves across a true blue sky, framing Longspeak with frothy elegance. What would be a better location to enjoy soups, salad, and homemade, delicious pies?

Our namesake play will return this weekend with three fantastic performances! Seven Keys to Baldpate will start its entertaining Friday, August 6, at 6:30pm! Saturday is loaded with 2 Key performances, the first at 1:30pm, perfectly fit for following an 11:30pm lunch, and an evening performance at 6:30pm, nestled nicely between two great times for dinner. Tickets are $15 and $12 with the purchase of a meal. Be sure to come and enjoy all that The Baldpate has to offer! Please call for play and dinner reservations at (866) 577-KEYS.

The Baldpate Inn has recently been awarded one of the top Great Customer Service establishments in Estes Park. Our staff is thoughtfully made up of young professionals with a passion for hospitality. We will greet you will a smile that holds through your time with us. Honestly, we just want you to have the best dining/lodging experience possible.
